But in their New World Bible, the Jehovah's Witnesses mistranslate Psalm 146:4 to say that man's spirit, which they define as his breath, "goes out" - their implication being that when man stops breathing, he stops having a "spirit" and ceases to exist. "Then God said, 'Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness' " (Genesis 1:26).
It was not the mere combining of dust and breath that "produced" a living soul.
